Waterloo Records Best Albums of 2013

Waterloo Records just released their Best of 2013 list, chosen by their employees.

Seeing this list reminds me just how much music I really need to delve into.  I enjoy music, but I certainly wouldn’t consider myself an audiophile by any means.  I usually get into indie artists about three or four years after everyone else has heard of them.  For instance, I was raving about Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros to my brother and friend Tap this past weekend, thinking neither of them had heard of the band.  I was wrong. Tap said, “Oh. I saw them at SXSW 2011.  You weren’t at that show, for some reason.”  “You ruined Jen’s one opportunity of being a hipster,” my brother replied.

I think a fun project for the next several months will be to listen to these albums, and seeing for myself if these albums are worthy of a best of list.  I’ll think I’ll start from the bottom first and post my thoughts here.  I like what I’ve heard of HAIM, so hopefully that will be a fun album to listen to.

  1. Sounds like a great project. I’m interested to hear your thoughts, maybe you’ll introduce to me some new music. I don’t think any of the albums I bought this year on this list. And only a few that I know.
